World Emoji Day

While the use of emojis might sometimes seem silly and childish, according to psychologists and researches, they play a vital role in the way we communicate, allowing a boring text message to convey emotion, tone or intent.

The Japanese word 'emoji' roughly translates to 'picture word' and was created in 1990 by Shigetaka Kurita, while working for a Japanese telecom company. Today, bring some fun into the workplace with emojis! Challenge your employees with an emoji-only message or post and see who can understand you and respond the quickest. Don't forget to share the celebration and use the hashtag #WorldEmojiDay.

Need some inspiration? Check out emojipedia.org - we just used it to verify a long running office argument about this emoji [insert two hands emoji] confirming it is prayer hands (commonly meaning please or thank you in Japanese culture) and not a 'high five'!
